What is a Clerical Officer?

Within healthcare, Clerical Officers provide the support to keep our health services running smoothly and efficiently. Complex and interesting, this role would see you carrying out a wide range of clerical and general office duties - from basic administrative tasks and answering the phones, to being the first line of contact with the public. You will work as part of a tight team, and alongside managers and senior officers who you’ll assist. No two days are the same and the job is never predictable.

What Does a Clerical Officer Do?

As a Clerical Officer working within the healthcare sector, your role would include the following key functions…

Communicating

In some settings, you would liaise with the public - handling phone calls, responding to emails and providing high-quality in-person customer service. For other positions you would be liaising with colleagues and managers within the service to organise the service needs.

Maintaining

You would be responsible for the efficient and organised maintenance of patient and client records and updating inventories. You would also maintain and update the business’ or service’s database, inventory and filing systems.

Organising

You will carry out a range of clerical and administrative duties. From organising contracts and policies to despatching bills and invoices - organising and executing day-to-day administration is key.

Operating

You will use all the latest technologies and IT systems in your department or service - from your employer’s IT system to the Microsoft Suite of programmes.

Supporting

You will support the patient needs of the service. Liaise with your colleagues and managers alike to ensure the smooth running of the daily service needs.

What Type of Business Support Jobs Can TTM Offer?

TTM has a wide range of Business support positions available, nationwide - on a temporary, contract or permanent basis. These roles available from Grade III (Clerical Officer) to Grade VII (Administrative Officer) including but not limited to areas such as general admin, IT, finance, HR and Senior Management positions.

What Qualifications Do I Need to be a Clerical Officer?

Qualifications may vary according to employers, but generally you would need to hold the following:

• Work experience that is relevant to this role, and the ability to demonstrate equivalent skills.

• Relevant qualification may be necessary for grade V to grade VII depending on the service required

• Business support / medical secretary level 5 are desirable but not essential

What Skills are Desired?

From strong administration performance to excellent interpersonal and communication skills, employers will look for a range of skills when hiring Business Support staff. Roles available to suit a variety of abilities:

What Benefits are Offered?

The Business Support jobs we offer are within the public, private and voluntary/not-for-profit sectors.

Positions within the public sector have a set pay scale. This increases according to your previous public sector work experience and your grade. In line with the public sector pay scales, the increments to the next point on the relevant scale are applicable for every 52weeks worked.

Private and voluntary sector pay rates vary depending on the service.

Generally Monday to Friday positions are available, with premiums applicable for overtime and weekend work if required.
