Clinical Optometrist for CHO7 paediatric ophthalmology service

Applications are welcome for the role of clinical optometrist with the new paediatric ophthalmology service in Community Health Organisation 7 (CHO7). This is an exciting opportunity to join the multidisciplinary team leading the way for integrated eye care in Ireland. The team will initially establish a paediatric service but ultimately will expand to provide adult care including in the fields of glaucoma, pre and post-operative cataracts, and medical retina with an intravitreal injection clinic.

This is initially a locum post with the possibility of a permanent position in the near future. The successful candidate will work as part of the newly established multidisciplinary Primary Care Eye Team (PCET) which includes the Consultant Medical Ophthalmologist (clinical lead), clinical optometrists, orthoptists and nurses. The main hubs of clinical activity are in Kilnamanagh Tymon Primary Care Centre in Tallaght (with anticipated move to permanent location in Russell House, Tallaght in 2022) and in Kildare Primary Care Centre. Willingness to work across our sites is essential.

The service delivers ophthalmic care to children aged 0-16 years, with the majority of clients aged 1-8 years. Expertise in paediatric refraction and ocular examination is essential. A minimum of three years of post-graduate experience is required. The service has strong links with tertiary hospitals including the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital, and Children's Health Ireland at Crumlin and Tallaght and there are excellent educational and research opportunities.
