Hours : 8am - 5pm (Monday - Friday) - hours can be negotiated

The Role :

The Director of Nursing is responsible for the smooth running of the Nursing Home in line with the Centre's own policies, procedures and HIQA regulations. The DON is required to plan and direct all nursing services, through management of the team, ensuring the quality of service and care is always to the highest possible standard in accordance with best national and international practices.

The Director of Nursing will have the autonomy manage all operational matters (clinical and non) to improve resident outcomes and is supported in the role by the General, HR, & Quality Management functions, Assistant Director of Nursing/CNM.

Ensure that the provision of a high standard of evidenced based care to the resident and families
Enhance and lead the delivery of person-centred care to residents
Create and promote open communications, healthy working relationships, and stimulate initiative among the team.
Conduct audits and develop action plans to address any areas of noncompliance.
Workforce planning and employment decisions including selection, mentoring and applying appropriate corrective actions.
Promote the concepts of person-centred care which meet the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs of the residents.
Support and empowerment of staff to effectively manage in their roles.
Ensure that risks are pro-actively identified and support the appropriate persons in the treatment of such risks and are reported upon and escalated appropriately.

Requirements :

A qualified RGN with at least 3 years' experience in the last 6 years in care of the older person
Not less than 3 years' experience in a management capacity in the health and social care area
Current registration with NMBI
A post registration management qualification in health or a related field.
Post registration qualification in dementia care and gerontology, highly desirable.
Detailed knowledge of HIQA standards and regulations.
Strong planning, organisation and people management skills
Evidence of continuous professional development.
