Martin’s Inspiring Journey into Healthcare with TTM

In this video, meet Martin McHugh, a healthcare assistant in Sligo whose path to healthcare wasn’t planned but turned out to be the perfect fit.

Back in 2015, after completing treatment for cancer, Martin was at a crossroads. Looking for a new career direction, he explored different options and landed on a course in healthcare support. During his two-week hospital placement, something clicked. Martin realised he wasn’t just enjoying the work he was thriving in it. Caring for patients, supporting them through vulnerable moments, and making a tangible difference felt meaningful.

He called TTM, and within two weeks, he had his first role. Eleven years later, Martin is still passionate about the work he does every day.

Making a Difference Through Experience

Martin’s own health journey shapes the way he supports patients. He understands fear, uncertainty, and the need for reassurance because he’s been there himself. Few moments are more rewarding than seeing someone arrive unwell and leave a week or two later knowing he played a part in their recovery.
