If you’re a Social Care Worker in Ireland, you’ll know that from 1 December 2025 all practising Social Care Workers must be registered with the multi-profession health regulator CORU. Your registration brings many important benefits which can have a direct positive effect on your career success and standing. In this blog we take a closer look at the key wins for you…

#1 You can legally use the title of Social Care Worker

From 1 December 2025 the title ‘Social Care Worker’ became legally protected and provided you are registered you can use this title.

#2 Your quality is assured

Your CORU registration assures members of the public that you have the skills, knowledge and expertise to safely practise as a Social Care Worker in Ireland, and that your qualifications have been independently verified.

#3 Improved profile and opportunities

Registration will boost your professional standing as well as your career opportunities. Applying for new jobs is now much easier as CORU registration will be the single-most important requirement.

#4 CPD opportunities

CORU gives you a structured but flexible framework to help you take ownership of your professional development – through courses, workshops and work-based learning.

#5 Growing public confidence

Registration gives much-needed recognition to your profession and the part it plays in supporting the most vulnerable members of society.

#6 Improved quality across the profession

CORU is committed to working with Social Care professionals like you to advance your profession’s quality of service, ethical practice, accountability and transparency.

#7 You’ll be supported and protected

You’ll be protected by your own clear Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics which gives you guidance and support on ethical practice and brings clarity to your work regarding personal and professional standards. There is also a defined and formal disciplinary process in place to safeguard the reputation of your profession.

#8 Recognition

Registration will help with recognition of any international Social Care qualification you may hold.

#9 Networking

You’ll be part of a network of like-minded professionals and peers which makes for valuable learnings opportunities such as networking events, webinars and special forums.

#10 The CORU mark

You can use CORU’s logo on your work-related material – an important ‘stamp of approval.’
