Job Title: Infection Prevention & Control Lead - Residential Care Home - Co. Mayo

Reporting Reports to the Director of Nursing

Key Responsibilities :

• Under the direction of the Director of Nursing the Infection Prevention & Control Lead will provide leadership relating to all infection prevention & control processes within the nursing home.

• He/she will work to ensure delivery of care to the residents using clean, safe, evidence-based infection control practice based on current legislation and guidance. He/ she will act as an ambassador and expert for all aspects of infection prevention and control.

• Collection and analyse data needed to manage the IPC activity within the home and lead all IPC audit and surveillance activity.

• Provide expert advice and training to all staff relating to IPC.

• Oversee the management of outbreaks of infection and incidents as they occur.

• Challenges unsafe practice in all levels of staff in order to reduce the risk of health care related infections.

• The post holder has responsibility for the day-to-day management and continuing development of infection prevention practice and will work closely with management to achieve the highest standard of infection prevention and control.

• Display business & financial acumen and an appreciation of the requirements of the environment.

• Be proactive in seeking opportunities for improvements and embrace change.

• Display high levels of personal integrity and maintain confidentiality in all relevant aspects required of the role. Exercise discretion when dealing with issues and not discuss any issue regarding a resident or staff member inappropriately.

• Demonstrate problem solving skills and present solutions to issues which may arise.

• All staff are required to establish and maintain relationships with residents that are based on respect and equality and promote their independence.

• Comply with the employee responsibilities as set out in the Safety Statement. Take reasonable care of your own health and safety, and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work.

Person Requirements :

• Applicants must have current Irish nursing registration and in addition an Infection Prevention & Control qualification.

• There is no minimum experience requirement as all qualified applicants will be considered.

• Have excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrate sound clinical knowledge.

• Previous experience in confidently and effectively training others desirable.

• Work compassionately and with empathy with the residents.

• Demonstrate the ability to prioritise and be flexible and adaptable.

• This role can be rostered flexibly to balance the business and employee needs.
