Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM) - Residential Care Home - Co. Kilkenny

Reports To:Director of Nursing / Deputy Director of Nursing

Accountable for:

Professional Leadership
The delivery of effective quality assured person centered care

Qualifications and Requirements :

Qualified nurse with at least 3years+ post graduate experience, on the register of nurses maintained by An Bord Altranais.
Knowledge of HIQA regulations and current legislative policies pertinent to Care of Older Persons.
Ability to manage change.
An ability to work well within a large team environment.
Must have Garda Clearance.
Must be able to provide 3 written references.
All applicants must have fluency in English both written and oral and hold a valid work permit.


Key areas of responsibility:

Resident Care

Playing a central role in Assessing, Planning, Implementing and evaluating nursing care
Prioritising care needs of residents while ensuring care is individualised
Assisting in Managing the nursing home environment so that it is conducive to meeting the physical, psychological and social needs of residents
Preparing and Administrating Drugs in line with the Nursing Home policy and An Bord Altranais' guidelines
Ensuring residents hygiene/personal care needs are maintained to the highest standards while maintaining the residents dignity at all time
Assisting in the safekeeping of residents valuables
Providing Palliative care for dying residents and support for their residents

Management

Acting up for the Director/Deputy Director of Nursing in her absence or in an emergency
Planning and allocation of nursing teams with appropriate staff members, skill mix and levels of experience to meet the clinical demands and the continuity of care
Controlling use of all supplies and the proper use of all equipment
Identifying projected needs through constant floor inventories and estimate appropriate limits of resources

Performance Management :

Leading by example and demonstrating a strong team ethos' being positive and motivational at all times
Conducting induction and sign off for new employees
Encouraging, training and guiding team while maintaining a happy environment
Providing guidance and advice to all junior nursing and care staff
Participating in Staff Appraisals while continually assessing the performance of all employees
Addressing without delay any issues or allegations

Health and Safety Awareness :

Adherence to precautions identified in the infection control policy
Attending to any spillages to avoid any accident
Assisting in the disposal of clinical waste in line with Nursing home policy
Application of manual Handling Techniques as trained
Compliance with fire safety regulations
Compliance with the Safety statement
Ensuring the work area is a safe environment for residents and visitors
Compliance with H.A.C.C.P guidelines and all Food Safety' best practices
Adherence to all national and local health and safety policies and guidelines
Reporting any defects in equipment.

Communication and Relationships :

Assisting in maintaining a physical environment that is safe, peaceful and comfortable for all residents and employees alike
Communicating frequently and accurately to residents, families and other professionals where appropriate
Working as part of the team while keeping the Management informed of any relevant information
Attending meetings as required
Aware of all internal memos and directives by management
Communicating any grievances with line management
Maintaining an open and honest relationship with all departments including Catering, Housekeeping, Activities, Maintenance and Administration.


Administration and Continuous Improvement :

Recording and maintaining accurate documentation including care-plans
Recording and reporting of any incidents, accidents and unusual occurrences
Attending mandatory training and other training as directed by Management/
Attending annual appraisals with the Line Management
Aware of all policies and any changes or amendments that are made to the nursing home policies
Contributing to own continuous professional development.
