Role: To operationally manage and develop Respiratory and Sleep Services and structures, embracing continuous quality improvement and the management of changes necessary to achieve Hospital objectives.

Responsibilities:

•Manage the department by providing strategic, operational and clinical leadership, which results in the delivery of effective, efficient, quality assured and patient centred Respiratory service.
•Lead, manage and motivate the Respiratory and Sleep team, ensuring optimum and effective use of staff and delegating responsibility and accountability as appropriate
•Utilise advanced skills in patient assessment and undertake appropriate clinical decisions and actions referring to Respiratory Consultants /NCHDs, as appropriate
•Engage with Respiratory clinical lead for the delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic tests
•Develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care, and set and monitor standards of practice
•Advise on equipment selection, purchase, replacement and upgrading
•Keep the Business Manager/Respiratory Consultants and appropriate Heads of Department appraised of any significant development within the area of responsibility
•Formulate policies and selection, introduction and development of information and other systems for co-ordination of data collection, communication and management.
•Ensure that modern standards of clinical care are in operation and that regular monitoring is undertaken
•Manage the orientation of new staff members and participate in and conduct performance review and development of assigned staff
•Maintain adequate and accurate records, including attendance/annual leave/sick leave/ absenteeism/maternity leave of your staff
•Participate in the preparation of plans for the service and monitor report on their implementation as required.
•Prepare annual financial estimates in respect of pay and non-pay resources and ensure expenditure is controlled within budget and identify potential for efficiency saving through improved practices and innovation.
•Be aware of risks to patients and staff and follow the correct hospital procedure for reporting and documenting each incident, whilst being fully aware of the legal requirements and implications.
•Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams within the Hospital, to improve processes and practices and to identify areas for quality improvement with regard to maintaining Hospital Accreditation.
•Initiate conflict resolution as when required by ensuring that a genuine attempt is made to resolve any issues, which may arise at local level.
