The Position :

Assistant Director of Nursing - State of Art Residential 5 Star Care Home - South Dublin - €60K - €70K

Our client a 5-star purpose built elderly care facility based in South Dublin are currently recruiting an Assistant Director of Nursing.

The Role :

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) will report directly to the Operations Manager (PIC). The successful candidate will assist in maintaining and enhancing the professional services and provision of care to residents, managing all operational matters on their Unit (clinical and non) to improve resident outcomes.

The primary role of the ADON will be one of professional and business leadership in the day to day operations of the Unit. To achieve this, the ADON will be required to fulfil, in line with documented policies and procedures, line manager responsibilities on a day to day basis in the following areas:

1. Governance and Management
2. Clinical care
3. Social care
4. Transitions, transfers and occupancy management
5. Family support
6. HR management
7. Financial and administration management
8. Facility management

General role and responsibilities include:

Undertake the responsibilities of the ADON in line with the Health Act 2007, related regulations and the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards, including those relating to HIQA notification requirements and quarterly reporting.
Develop and maintain competency levels necessary for professional practice.
Oversee the organisation and day to day management of the Unit.
Oversee the delivery of services to residents with all members of the Multidisciplinary teams.
Promote effective communication between all professionals involved in the care and treatment of residents, with due regard for the residents' wishes about the sharing of their information.
Collaborate, consult and communicate with other staff regarding the appropriate use of nursing assessments, diagnosis, planning, interventions, and evaluation of resident care.
Participate in the overall management of the Unit as part of the Management Team.
Participate as a member of the Unit Teams as deemed required, including the Social, Clinical, Transitions Committee, the Multidisciplinary Risk Management Team meetings, Incident Management Team meetings and Resident Association meetings.
Demonstrate behaviour consistent with the values of the home and organisation
Ensure resident confidentiality. Resident information shall not be discussed outside of the home, except within professional capacity and in the interest of the resident with the expressed permission of the Registered Provider.
Lead, by example, a professional, punctual and dedicated team.
Ensure that where directing delegation of care, the delegation is appropriate to the definitions and philosophies of nursing. Delegation shall consider the levels of experience, competence, role and scope of practice of the staff member taking on the delegated task.
Be responsible for the delegated responsibilities in the recruitment, development, and supervision of staff.
Facilitate and participate where appropriate, in education, training and supervision of other staff as the need arises. Ensure that minimum mandatory training requirements for all staff are met and updated on an ongoing basis.
Ensure there is always appropriate staff available within the Unit to provide safe and effective care and to meet the residents' needs.
Ensure that the provision of a high standard of care and service to the resident, and their family members/representatives, in the Unit is consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the Unit.
Promote and maintain resident safety and provide quality care through respecting the dignity, privacy and rights of the resident.
Develop relationships with residents, which facilitates resident autonomy, informed choice and evidence-based decision-making.
Encourage recognition of the resident as an individual; ensuring residents' rights, needs and comfort are given priority during the provision of care

The successful candidate must hold the following qualifications and experience to fulfil the requirements of this role:

A registered General Nurse on the Register of Nurses held by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
Evidence of continuous professional development.
A post registration management qualification in health or a related field.
not less than 3 years' experience of nursing older persons within the previous 6 years.
not less than 3 years' experience in a management capacity in the health and social care area
The ability to communicate effectively with residents, family members, team members, management and external
bodies e.g. HIQA, HSE, GPs etc.
Post registration qualification in dementia care and gerontology, highly desirable.
