Case Study: Nurse recruitment in the Philippines

Client challenge: staff retention, many nurses were leaving their site for roles in London.

Along with cost implications, failure to retain staff can have a negative impact on patient care causing disruption and loss of momentum. TTM Healthcare's international project recruitment division maintains a consistent retention rate of over 90% among overseas professionals after 12 months. 

A recruitment project was organised for Manila in late October 2014. We provided:

The client hoped to recruit 50 Band 5 Nurses with experience across all specialities. Such was the calibre of candidates at interview that 58 Filipino Nurses secured offers.

Client challenge: location and negative reputation

Over 150 Band 5 Staff nurses were urgently required by our client. They found that both their location and reputation posed serious obstacles to recruitment.

We advised that the best strategy was for our client to differentiate itself by demonstrating how they are improving standards of patient care and conditions of work by developing a promotional video and information pack. We planned a number of overseas recruitment drives. Nurse Managers from the Trust travelled to meet candidates directly. This resulted in very positive interview to offer and offer to acceptance ratios. It will also aid long term retention of these staff, a key client requirement.

Initial projects placed 128 nurses with our client. Further events were scheduled to reach the balance. Such was the hospital’s satisfaction that they engaged TTM Healthcare to source a further 200 Nurses to meet their future requirements.
