Senior Medical Scientist (Clinical Chemistry and Point of Care Testing), required by TTM Healthcare, on behalf of an independent, acute care hospital based in North Dublin.

The JCI and INAB accredited Pathology Department is a consultant led service and includes 45 scientific, assistant, clerical and phlebotomy staff, supporting 18 clinical units within the hospital including cardiology, endoscopy, surgery, medicine and oncology, performing a wide range of clinical laboratory investigations utilising state of the art diagnostic analysers and techniques.

As Senior Medical Scientist in Clinical Chemistry and Point of Care Testing, you will be participating in delivering, planning, co-ordinating and promoting all activities within Clinical Chemistry ensuring the achievement of agreed targets and standards, as well as managing the training, compliance and reporting on all point-of-care testing (POCT) devices.

Duties will include, but are not limited to: supporting the Chief Medical Scientist in leading and co-ordinating scientific and support staff and delivering the day-to-day service, as well as deputising in their absence, participating in the on-call/ out-of-hours rota as needed, participate in maintaining an accredited service which is patient-centred and which complies with the requirements of ISO15189, ISO22870, JCI and any other relevant body and be responsible for the day-to-day management and monitoring of all POCT devices within the hospital, ensuring safety and quality standards are met and that the equipment is operated only by staff trained and competent in its use.

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Medical Science – only ACSLM approved degrees can be considered
• MSc or equivalent in a relevant subject
• Fellowship or eligible for Fellowship of the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM)
• Minimum 4 years post-qualification recent hospital laboratory experience in Biochemistry
• Experience of POCT
• Evidence of ongoing CPD
• Experience of INAB accreditation for laboratories
• Excellent planning and organisational skills
• Good understanding of quality management
• Excellent understanding of POCT accreditation requirements
