Senior Occupational Therapist – 12-month Fixed Term HSE Contract

They have an available opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist with excellent Mental Health experience, skills and knowledge. The Client is also happy to consider Staff Grade O. T’s that would have a minimum of 2-3yrs Mental Health Experience

You will work as part of multi-disciplinary teams delivering a coordinated approach with service users. You will be required to carry out independent living skills assessment with Service Users, living in residential Units, hostels, and where applicable, in approved centres.

You will contribute to development of an evidenced based model for transitioning, which focuses on empowering and enabling people with mental health challenges to live as full and independent a life as possible in line with their wishes.

The Senior Occupational Therapist will:

  • Be responsible for managing own caseload and for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes for service users according to service standards
  • Participate in the integrated discharge planning process in line with the HSE Code of Practice
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day running of a designated service area(s) by supervising staff, prioritising and allocating work and promoting positive staff morale and team working in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager
  • In conjunction with the Occupational Therapist Manager lead service planning by anticipating the changing needs of the service and service users
  • Foster and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, front line managers, and other healthcare personnel in the team
  • Ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries are in accordance with local service and professional standards
  • Attend clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences, ward rounds etc. as designated by the Occupational Therapist Manager

Key Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Be registered on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU.
  • Have three years full time (or an aggregate of three years) post qualification clinical experience, two years must be in mental health services
  • Attention to detail and a strict quality focus
  • A good team player, with reliability and flexibility key requirements
  • Good administration skills and computer skills, to include excel, word, powerpoint and outlook
  • Excellent communication and clinical skills with both patients and professional staff, excellent written and verbal English required


  • To be eligible for the role, you will need to:
  • Have 2-3 years or more post qualification experience within a Mental Health Setting. An Occupational Therapist qualification or clinical experience is advantageous, along with CORU registration
