CNS Occupational Health (Part time 24 hour/week on a 12-month contract)  CNS Occupational health required for a large acute hospital in Galway. This is a part time position based on a 24 hour week and is on a 12 month fixed term contract.

This position is responsible for the provision of a high standard of professional/clinical leadership and continuous improvements in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.  
The role of the CNS Occupational health will include Clinical Focus, Patient / Clinical Advocacy, Education/ Training, Audits and Research, Consultancy as well as Management and Administration.  
The day to day duties involve:
  • Managing own caseload in accordance with the needs of the post
  • Providing pre employment and pre placement health assessment programme including hearing and vision screening.
  • In liaison with the Infection Control CNS, to be proactive with protection of all employees and patients, from exposure to infectious diseases
  • Representing the patients/ client's occupational health and related needs and concerns when necessary, informing, advising and counselling others on these needs as appropriate.
  • Act as and be available as a clinical resource and consultant inter and intra disciplinary, in the area of Occupational Health nursing and related aspects of care, in order to promote improved Occupational Health management.
  • Plan, promote, and participate in audit programmes of the service, in line with local and regional developments in order to improve the quality of patient/ client care.
  • Develop and deliver training and awareness programmes appropriate to Occupational Health service.
  • Be responsible for the day to day running and administration of the Occupational Health Department.
  • Provide leadership and motivation conducive to good working relations and performance
  • Be a Registered General Nurse with a recognised Occupational Health qualification
  • Possess Venepuncture, Vaccination Administration and Inoculation Injury Management skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ideally have 5 years post registration with at least 2 years managing a Hospital Occupational Health Service.
  • Experience in Auditing and Research, Resource Management and Counselling Skills are desirable but not essential.
